The Reading Board of Education has selected Mr. Jason Enix as the next superintendent to lead the Reading Community City School District. Enix is currently the assistant superintendent of Beavercreek City Schools.
The Board plans to approve Enix as superintendent at their Board of Education meeting on March 4, 2020. He is slated to begin in the district on July 1, 2020. He is replacing Chuck LaFata, who is retiring effective July 31, 2020.
The district conducted an extensive search led by the Ohio School Boards Association that began in December of 2019. A total of 28 candidates applied. After the field was narrowed down, the Board of Education, community members, Reading staff and high school students, conducted a meet and greet and interviews of the three finalists on February 25.
“Choosing the superintendent is one of the most important decisions a school board makes,” said Reading Board President Beth Wernery. “On the feedback forms from all three groups, we heard common themes about Jason. Everyone was impressed by his professional experience, his collaborative leadership style, his genuine demeanor, and his commitment to both academic growth and community outreach. It is clear that he is the best fit for Reading Schools.”
Since 2016, Enix has been the assistant superintendent at Beavercreek City Schools. In this role, he provided leadership and oversight for the curriculum department and supported many district and community level initiatives. He facilitated the course of study process including alignment of curriculum, materials, and resource selection. He also oversees the development of the secondary program of studies and master schedule.
His experience in both large and small districts and expertise in curriculum development and support will serve the district well. Enix has served as an assistant principal at West Carrollton Middle School for eight years and a principal at Lebanon Junior High School for two years. Before his move to administration, he was both a 5th-grade math/science teacher and an 8th-grade math/science teacher.
“It is an honor to be selected to serve the district and community as the next Superintendent. I look forward to the opportunity to engage with our students, staff, administrative team, families and community during this transition period in the coming months. Reading has a very bright future and I am excited to become a part of this outstanding district,” Enix said.
Enix is a native of Huber Heights, Ohio and received his Bachelor of Science in Education from Ohio University and his Master of Science in Education and Allied Professions from the University of Dayton. He and his wife Monica were married in June and share three daughters, a son, and son-in-law.
