Reading Board Member, Mr. Jason Rader, has submitted his resignation from the Reading Board of Education, effective December 10, 2020. Ohio law requires the board to fill the vacancy no sooner than 10 days after the vacancy occurs. The Board must act to fill the vacancy within 30 days with a majority vote of the remaining members.
The person appointed to replace Mr. Rader will serve on the Board of Education beginning as soon as the Board takes action on December 28, 2020, and ending December 31, 2021. If the new appointee is interested in completing the remaining two years of Mr. Rader’s four-year term, they must file paperwork prior to August 4, 2021, to be placed on the ballot for the November 2021 election.
Whether elected or appointed, school board members serve their communities in several important ways:
- Set the vision and goals for the district
- Adopt policies that give the district direction to set priorities and achieve its goals
- Hire and evaluate the superintendent and treasurer
- Adopt and oversee the annual budget
Effective school board members contribute their unique talents while collaborating and working as a team with other Board members, superintendent, and treasurer. In addition, Board members receive a small stipend for each meeting.
