On October 12th RJSH took part in the first-ever College and Career day. Part of this day included the 8th graders taking part in Manufacturing Day. Manufacturing Day is an initiative of the Advanced Manufacturing Industry Partnership (AMIP) of Cincinnati. The goal of this day is to inspire the next generation of innovative mechanical minds and to showcase the excellent career opportunities advanced manufacturing holds. As part of the day, 4 groups of 8th graders were able to tour four different advanced manufacturing plants in the region. The sites toured included: General Tool, Monti inc., Lincoln Harris, and Vega Industries. Science teacher Cindy Taylor who attended the trip had this to say about the experience, "Today was an absolutely great experience! These 8th graders haven't been out of this building on a trip since 5th grade ( if then ) and they were amazing. Great questions! Good attention span! And General Tool gave us a wonderful morning! What an impressive facility! I grew up here and I had no idea of the magnitude of their work."
Reading Community Schools would like to thank AMIP, General Tool, Lincoln Harris, and Vega for the great experiences they afforded our students on this day. Reading is looking to expand course offerings that would help better equip our students for the new technologies manufacturers are developing.
