Reading Junior Senior High has officially launched its construction pathway. Eight students, seven seniors, and one junior attended the independent electrical contractor's pre-apprenticeship workshop today. At the workshop, the students received an introduction to the electrician trade and career path as well as getting hands-on experience such as stripping wire, wiring a light switch, and other techniques. Students will now be able to start taking post-HS apprenticeship classes while still in HS to get them a head start into the trade. In addition to the activities the students engaged with today, the students also met with local contractors looking for future electricians. It will be exciting to see if any senior gets a job placement as a result of today's workshop. There will soon be more opportunities in other trades like pipefitting, manufacturing, and general maintenance. Look for these opportunities and more as Reading helps all students be career ready on graduating HS.
