We are thrilled to introduce you to our new District Nurse, Lucy Gruen! Lucy's passion for school nursing makes her a wonderful addition to our team, and we are excited to have her as part of the Reading family.
Lucy hails from Cincinnati and pursued her higher education at The Ohio State University after graduating from high school. She holds a Bachelor's degree in Nursing which she has used in her impressive 15-year nursing career. During her career, Lucy lived and worked in various locations, including Chicago, Connecticut, and New York, before returning to her hometown of Cincinnati. She has spent the majority of her nursing career at Cincinnati Children's Hospital in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit.
In the last two years, Lucy took on a new role as a substitute school nurse in a neighboring district while also managing a large outpatient facility for Cincinnati Children's Hospital. It was during this time that she discovered her deep passion for school nursing, prompting her to return to school to obtain her School Nurse Certification through Ashland University.
Lucy has been married for 14 years to her college sweetheart, Eric, who shares her enthusiasm for The Ohio State University. Together, they have three wonderful children: Rosie, a 10-year-old competitive dancer, Kenny, a 6-year-old Pokémon enthusiast, and Kara, who is 3 and loves all things “princess”. They welcomed a fourth member to their family about a year ago, their adorable dog, Sonny.
Lucy has already had the pleasure of meeting many of our students in the past couple of weeks, and she is eager to continue building connections with students and families across the Reading community. Her primary goal is to help keep Reading students healthy and thriving in school.
We invite you to join us in extending a warm welcome to Lucy Gruen as she takes on this vital role in our school district. We have every confidence that her experience, compassion, and dedication will contribute to the well-being of our students and the success of our school community.
