Reading Community Schools is proud to announce an exceptional academic milestone achieved by Joshua Johnson, a trailblazing student at Reading Jr/Sr High School. Special recognition will be given to Joshua at the May 15th board meeting.
At just 15 years old, Joshua will be honored for completing an Associate of Arts (AA) degree in Liberal Arts and Sciences from Sinclair Community College—making him the first student in the history of the district to earn a college degree while still enrolled in high school.
Joshua started his collegiate journey in 7th grade, becoming the first student in the district to enroll in a college course at just 12 years old through Cincinnati State Technical and Community College. By the end of his 8th grade year, Joshua had already completed seven college courses, amassing 22 credits.
Entering high school in the Fall of 2022, Joshua had accrued 11.25 high school credits, advancing his class year to 2025. His second year was spent as a full-time student at Sinclair Community College, where he completed all high school graduation requirements. Despite his academic advancements, Joshua has chosen to remain a high school student for an additional year to pursue another Associate degree, which he aims to complete by the end of his senior year.
Originally from Reading, Ohio, and an open-enrollment student since moving to Cincinnati at age 8, Joshua’s success is a testament to his dedication. As a result of his ground breaking achievements Reading Community Schools is committed to continuing to provide robust educational opportunities such as their ongoing initiative to expand pathways for their students. In collaboration with higher education institutions such as Sinclair Community College and Cincinnati State, the district is actively developing multiple Associate degree pathways to enhance the academic offerings available to its students.
Reading Community Schools extends its heartfelt congratulations to Joshua Johnson on his impressive achievements and looks forward to supporting him as he continues to inspire other students to challenge themselves and see what could be possible.
