Reading Community City Schools Hosts Business Appreciation Breakfast to Honor Local Partnerships

On February 20th, Reading Community City Schools hosted its Business Appreciation Breakfast, celebrating the invaluable partnerships that help shape the future of its students. With over 40 companies represented, the event provided an opportunity to recognize the businesses and individuals who contribute to student success through work-based learning, mentorship, and career development initiatives.

Inspiring Words from Keynote Speaker Sonya Fultz

This year’s event featured an inspiring keynote address by Sonya Fultz, CEO of Adopt A Class. Adopt A Class is a transformative mentorship program that connects businesses with students to provide career exposure, skill-building, and hands-on learning experiences. Sonya’s message emphasized the power of mentorship, workforce development, and the critical role businesses play in shaping students’ futures. Her insights reinforced the importance of strong school-business partnerships and how they positively impact students’ career trajectories.

Honoring Outstanding Business Partners

A highlight of the event was the presentation of the Ohio School Board Association (OSBA) Business Honor Roll Award to Cincinnati Air and AMIP. This prestigious recognition highlights businesses that have gone above and beyond in their collaboration with schools, demonstrating a commitment to fostering student growth, workforce readiness, and career exploration.

Introducing the Reading Career Compass Award

This year also marked the inaugural presentation of the Reading Community City Schools Career Compass Award, an honor given to outstanding high school juniors and seniors engaged in work-based learning programs. The award recognizes students who successfully bridge classroom learning with practical, real-world experience in their chosen career fields.

The first-ever recipient of the Career Compass Award was Kiley Hall, a student who has shown great promise in the field of behavioral health. Kiley’s dedication, professional skills, empathy, and strong work ethic exemplify the qualities required for success in this field. Her ability to apply what she has learned in the classroom to a professional setting made her a well-deserving recipient of this award.
